Teaching

Whatever your goals, I can help you achieve them with a personalised plan, focusing on the kind of musicianship you want to achieve. Drawing on my postgraduate study in music education, current performing practice, and a decade of teaching experience, I’m interested in helping students become confident readers who understand the structure of music from the ground up. With this strong theoretical base, you’ll have the freedom to improvise, compose, or play in any style you’d like.

For young or beginner students, half-hour lessons are ideal. Through repertoire and games, we’ll build your musicianship together, laying the groundwork for confident reading, rhythm skills, and technique.

$35 per half-hour lesson

Overlapping lessons are ideal for any student who wants to have a great time building their ensemble skills while still receiving one-on-one instruction. Lessons are split between 30 minutes of individual teaching and 30 minutes spent working with another student, specially matched to their skill and level. This gives students the essential skills required to play with others, whether in a duet, band, or chamber music setting.

$60 per one-hour overlapping lesson

Private one-hour lessons are ideal for intermediate to advanced students and involve concentrated skill-building, as well as the focused work required to reach exam or performance goals.

$70 per one-hour private lesson

“Ingrid is one of the most gifted teachers I have encountered, with genuine concern for and delight in the people she teaches, a considered and flexible approach to piano pedagogy, and an ongoing commitment to performance and practical music-making. When I hear about approaches she’s taken or problems she’s solved with her students, I often think ‘I wish I’d thought of that!’”

Dr. Jonathan Berkahn, colleague

“I’ve taken up the piano again after a long, long break, and, quite simply, Ingrid is brilliant! She’s helped me extend my knowledge, my technique, and my performance skills. I’m so happy to be playing again!”

Julian, adult student

“Ingrid has taught me for seven years. She is a great teacher who is understanding and caring and prioritises student wellbeing.”

Ruby, 13

“Ingrid is an excellent piano teacher. She has a lovely intuitive teaching style and even makes learning theory fun through her creative games. She is warm and kind and really gifts her students a love of music. I can’t recommend her highly enough!”
